Ruben van Zoest is a class of 2018 Master of Public Policy candidate. He holds a ‘Liberal Arts & Sciences’ degree from the University of Leiden. Before joining the Hertie School of Governance, he spent five months at the ‘Economic Governance Support Unit’ as a Schuman Trainee within the European Parliament. His research interests primarily lie in political economy, ranging from regime- to resource-curse dynamics. In particular, the causal relationship between technocratic governance and macroeconomic outcomes in the developing world continues to fascinate him on a daily basis.
